Available to parents to be whose partners are giving birth or adopting a child.
Father of the child and must have responsibility for the child, or
You are married to or are the partner of the child’s mother and expected to have responsibility for raising the child with the mother. Also applies to same sex relationships.
Must have worked for the same employer for 26 weeks by 15 weeks before birth date.
Entitlement to 1 week or 2 consecutive weeks to be taken from day of birth to 56 days after the birth. Paid at 90% of earnings or flat rate. ( £124.88 until April 2011).
After 3rd April 2011, the father with the mothers consent can take additional paternity leave as a substitute for additional maternity leave. This must be between a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 26 weeks. Only 13 weeks will be paid at same flat rare as additional maternity leave.
