| Article: | Nearly 200 members from Hovis, Wigan, packed Whelley Labour club in Wigan to hear representations from BFAWU Official, Ian Hodson, on the discussions taken place due to the company’s announcement to close the roll plant there. Following some frank discussions, members unanimously backed the Shop Stewards Committee in their aim to secure jobs and to support the call for industrial action if the company does not enter meaningful consultations with members. It was further agreed that the company’s attempt to introduce agency workers at the Wigan site should be resisted.The call for the company to reverse its decision, and keep the rolls plant at Wigan, was universally endorsed.
