BFAWU Statement on Allied Bakeries Belfast

R.E: INDUSTRIAL ACTION, ALLIED BAKERIES BELFAST, ORBY LINK.

Following pay talks with Allied Bakeries Belfast, members of the Bakers Food & Allied Workers Union voted
in support of all out strike action, due to commence at 6.00am on Sunday 16th February 2020.

The company offer has failed to meet the aspirations of our members, and have tabled percentage offers that fall short of members expectations. Within this site, like many others, workers are on consolidated rates of pay that include various components, such as overtime rates, statutory holidays and shift allowances. However, year on year since the inception of the consolidated rate at this site, low pay awards have seen the erosion of the consolidated rate to such a degree that workers now face an hourly rate of pay that we believe no longer includes the components that initially built up the rate of pay. At a recent branch meeting, members voiced their outraged that the current consolidated rates are no longer acceptable and the increases to the National Living Wage decreases the differential.

The most recent offer by the company of a two year deal of 2.2% & 2.1% was overwhelmingly rejected by our members in a consultative ballot.
