STRIKE ACTION CALLED OFF FOLLOWING AN ACCEPTED OFFER

Members of the BFAWU and Unite the Union have accepted an improved offer for a two year deal – 3% and 2.9% following a day of strike action on Sunday 16th February 2020. The company have been informed of the member’s decision to accept the offer and no further strike action will take place.

Further to this, Laura Graham BFAWU Regional Officer commented: “I believe that Sunday’s action taken by members was one of the most determined and effective actions I have witnessed from Trade Union members over recent years, and the determination to stop company vehicles entering or exiting the site strengthened our members resolve with each passing hour”. Laura added: “This action shows how working people, standing together, can bring about change that is so desperately needed in the face of employers that continually seek to drive down terms and conditions under the guise of ‘enhanced rates of pay’. The fact is that these rates have only been increased at the sacrifice of workers terms and conditions”. She went on to say: “The time has come for this trend to end; bring back overtime, shift allowances and statutory holidays to the workers, because the only people we see getting any kind of benefit to these hard fought terms and conditions are the management”.

The BFAWU wishes to thank all the Representatives and members of both Unions who made this outcome possible. You should be incredibly proud of each other.

The BFAWU salutes you!

In Solidarity
